Today's market

June 11, 2024 at 1:45 p.m. EDT

Michael P. Reinking, CFA
Sr. Market Strategist

Yesterday major indices recouped early losses to end the session modestly higher in what really was just a continuation of the recent sideways action. A sell the news response to Apple’s WWDC updates tempered what was otherwise a reasonably solid day in tech. As we mentioned in yesterday’s note, weakness in the financials especially the regional banks stood out. Markets in Asia were mixed overnight while European indices continued to be under pressure after the weekend’s election results. It is a pretty light day of economic catalysts with investors seemingly waiting for the key catalysts coming tomorrow. US futures were modestly lower overnight and accelerated to the downside after the open with the S&P 500 retesting the lows of the recent sessions (~5,330) before bouncing. However, that bounce is primarily coming from Apple as it rally >5% recouping all of yesterday’s pullback and then some. Outside of that bounce the breadth is pretty poor. Equities have ticked to fresh session highs after today’s 10yr auction was very well received.
