Second Trailer for Beautiful 'The Wild Robot' Movie from DreamWorks

The Wild Robot Trailer

"You need to learn how things work on this island." Universal + DreamWorks Animation have revealed the second official trailer for The Wild Robot, which was just presented at the 2024 Annecy Film Festival in France. Arriving in theaters in September later in the year. After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. A powerful story (based on the books) about the discovery of self, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things, The Wild Robot is written & directed by three-time Oscar nominee Chris Sanders—of How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Lilo & Stitch. Starring Lupita Nyong'o as Roz; Pedro Pascal as fox Fink; Catherine O'Hara as opossum Pinktail; Bill Nighy as goose Longneck; Kit Connor as gosling Brightbill, and Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, another robot. It also has the voices of Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, & Ving Rhames. Looks absolutely amazing. This new trailer shows a LOT of the story, and it's more than enough - I'll be there opening day to watch this on the big screen. Cannot wait.

Interview: Composer Tom Holkenborg on Crafting 'Mad Max' Scores

Tom Holkenborg Interview

"I consider myself, I call it, a 'full contact composer.' I'm not a guy that sits behind a piano with a piece of paper..." Now playing in theaters worldwide is the newest awesome George Miller post-apocalyptic action movie - Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The movie kicks ass and so does its score. Just like with Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa features a score composed by Dutch musician Tom Holkenborg. Before getting into composing scores for movies, Holkenborg went under the moniker "Junkie XL" and was a techno DJ and producer crafting electronica remixes and tracks galore. After achieving mega fame as Junkie XL, he moved into composing - one of his first scores is for the video game movie DOA: Dead or Alive (2006). He later composed the scores for the sequels 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), before being hired by George Miller to craft the intense rock n' roll score for Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). It's one of my all-time favorite scores, I still listen to it all the time. So when I was offered a chance to chat with Holkenborg for an interview, I couldn't say no. Here is my brief conversation with him about Mad Max.

In a last-effort gig at a motorcycle rally in South Dakota, she meets Casey, a guitarist who walked away from his dream long ago. But when she falls for him their love of music offers them both a chance to blossom. The cast also includes Thomas Doherty as Casey and Melanie Nicholls-King as Jean. With original songs written for the film by Bryce & Aaron Dessner. It's hard to not compare this to the recent A Star is Born, with a deep romance inspiring their music. Enjoy.

One More US Trailer for Scorsese's 'Powell & Pressburger' Cinema Doc

Powell & Pressburger Doc Trailer

"What they offer is a vision of love... of longing and loss, hope and expectation of wonder... I've watched these movies so many times, they've become part of my life." Cohen Media Group has also released their own official trailer for the wondrous documentary film titled Made in England: The Films of Powell & Pressburger, set for a run this summer in limited theaters. The doc is a cinema history look back at the iconic Powell & Pressburger filmmakers. Narrated and presented by Martin Scorsese, this explores the history of the two famous filmmakers Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, known for their beloved films including Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death, A Canterbury Tale, and Gone to Earth. It is "a love letter to one of cinema's greatest partnerships" with Scorsese taking us through his own admiration for their creations. Drawing on a rich array of archive material, Scorsese explores in full the collaboration between the Englishman Powell & Hungarian Pressburger who thrived in the face of adversity during World War II but struggled with the film industry of the 1950s. Really seems like a must watch doc.

Main Trailer for 'Joko Anwar's Nightmares & Daydreams' Sci-Fi Series

Joko Anwar's Nightmares & Daydreams Trailer

"What secrets about humanity will be revealed?" An ominous question to get your attention! Netflix has revealed the main official trailer for an anthology series of unsettling sci-fi stories called Joko Anwar's Nightmares and Daydreams, streaming later this week on Netflix worldwide. Not long of a wait! This is the creation of the acclaimed Indonesian genre filmmaker Joko Anwar. It's similar to Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix, but telling sci-fi stories from Indonesia instead. Tales of supernatural sci-fi phenomena unfold in this collection of seven mind-bending, interconnected stories. The first of its kind in Indonesian cinema, it's a series about ordinary people encountering mysterious phenomena we have never seen before. Is this a sign of a threat attacking our world? This new universe will be guided by key characters played by prominent Indonesian actors, including Ario Bayu, Fachry Albar, Marissa Anita, Lukman Sardi, and more. "I wanted to create something that most Indonesian viewers can relate to, so although it’s sci-fi supernatural, you’ll see some social and political themes." Check out some impressive footage below.

Eric Roberts in Cowboy Bandits Thriller 'The Outlaws' Official Trailer

The Outlaws Trailer

"Shut your mouth and pull the trigger!" Saban Films has revealed the official trailer for a cowboy bandits western thriller titled The Outlaws, an indie film directed by Joey Palmroos & Austen Paul. Though not to be confused with the British series The Outlaws or the Korean action film The Outlaws, this was originally titled 5 Outlaws until the name was changed to this vastly more generic, easily forgettable title. (They need to stop doing this.) A group of outlaws wake up to their loot bag from their train heist being empty. Each cowboy, hand tight to the bag, hanging on in the middle of the camp starts to interrogate each other on who among them stole the loot. With no witnesses, just the rugged nature, the wild west. Each outlaw now needs to try to convince the others, clear their name, and not get shot in the process, trying to find out who the real thief is. Starring Arthur Sylense, Dallas Hart, Jonathan Peacy, Liam James Collins, with Eric Roberts. This is a cool concept, just hope the film is any good. Eric Roberts looks like the best part about it.

Intriguing Trailer for Indie Film 'The Way We Speak' w/ Patrick Fabian

The Way We Speak Trailer

"Tide's coming in..." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Way We Speak, marking the feature directorial debut of indie filmmaker Ian Ebright. It premiered at the 2024 Florida Film Festival a few months ago, also screening at the RiverRun and Julien Dubuque Film Festivals. The Way We Speak is a modern cautionary tale. The synopsis is rather vague: An up-and-coming writer refuses to leave the spotlight when his best friend and debate opponent suffers cardiac arrest, leading to an obsession over his new opponent. Described in reviews as "a rich character study that centers around obsession, insecurity, and jealousy." Patrick Fabian stars as Simon, along with Diana Coconubo, Kailey Rhodes, Ayanna Berkshire, Lowell Deo, Ricco DiStefano, and Reed Diamond. This very moody, nearly dialogue-free trailer is a clever cover-up for the film's religious undercurrents - it's about how an atheist becomes insecure about his young, blonde, smart Christian debate opponent. Ugh. I wish they'd stop hiding this and just be bold and up front about it in the synopsis. It's clearly a narrative gimmick, and many will fall for it anyway...

Awesome Full Trailer for India's 'Kalki 2898 AD' Massive Sci-Fi Movie

Kalki 2898 AD Trailer

"A new world will rise." Damn!! Fire this up right away - it's a must watch. An incredible full trailer has dropped for an epic Indian sci-fi movie called Kalki 2898-AD. We first posted about this movie about a year ago when the first teasers debuted at SDCC. Now it has a final release date set - June 27th worldwide (so, everywhere, hopefully?!) - and one amazing new official trailer to enjoy. This is apparently India's most expensive movie ever made; it really does look like they spared no expensive making it massive & exciting. Plot details are sparse so far, but it's a Hindu religion inspired epic story with imagery that is reminiscent of Villeneuve's Dune. In Kalki 2898 AD, Indian mega star Prabhas plays a modern-day embodiment of Lord Vishnu who arrives to help save Earth and protect it from evil forces. Directed By Nag Ashwin, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Hassan, & Disha Patani. There's tons of extra footage in this new trailer compared to the last one, and the VFX are looking pretty good and pretty Dune-y. This might be a proper movie to catch in theaters! June Squibb, Deadpool & Wolverine Remind You to Turn Off Phones

Turn Off Phones Reminder

"I have a very particular set of skills... Skills I have acquired over a very long acting career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you." Do we need to remind you again?? TURN OFF YOUR PHONES. No phones, no texting, no talking during movies at the theater. No arguing, no excuses. Yes that means you. And you. All of you. Two new promos have debuted for upcoming movies featuring the characters from those movies reminding people to turn off their phones during screenings. The first one is for Deadpool & Wolverine, which opens in theaters at the end of July this summer. This promo spot has been playing in theaters around the world, and a leaked version has been uploaded so you can hear them cursing people out for using their phone (hell yeah, you tell 'em!!). The other promo features the incomparable June Squibb from the hilarious indie film Thelma, which opens in theaters at the end of June in just a few weeks (watch the trailer). The video with Squibb is an Alamo Drafthouse creation, and they usually always make these PSAs with celebrities every time there's a new release. They're both funny! And you better do what they say.

Watch: Disney Animation's Brand New Donald Duck Short 'D.I.Y. Duck'

D.I.Y. Duck Short Film

Everyone's favorite "Donald" is back! The iconic character Donald Duck returns in a brand new short film made by Disney Animation Studios. This premiered for streaming this past weekend to celebrate the 90th birthday, rather 90th anniversary, of the character created by the original Walt Disney and his animators (specifically Dick Lundy). The extra grumpy duck made his first cartoon appearance on June 9th, 1934 as a supporting character in the short The Wise Little Hen, and most recently appeared in Once Upon a Studio. The new short film is called D.I.Y. Duck, and it features Donald trying to fix a lightbulb in his home, going back-n-forth to the hardware store as more problems arise during his attempts to get the new bulb to work. Disney has also re-released a few remastered classic Donald Duck short films, including Crazy Over Daisy and Out on a Limb, with all of them launching for streaming on Disney+ for audiences to enjoy. This is only 2 mins long and it's classic cartoon comedy at its best. How many ducks does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Penny Lane's Doc 'Confessions of a Good Samaritan' Official Trailer

Confessions of a Good Samaritan Trailer

"The point is that you are helping a stranger." Sandbox Films has revealed the trailer for the documentary film titled Confessions of a Good Samaritan, the latest from excellent doc filmmaker Penny Lane (also of Nuts!, Hail Satan?, Listening to Kenny G). This first premiered at last year's SXSW Film Festival, and it will be debuting in June in select theaters. Director Penny Lane's decision to become a "good Samaritan" by giving one of her kidneys to a stranger turns into a funny and moving personal quest to understand the nature of altruism. Her new doc Confessions of a Good Samaritan is a provocative inquiry into the science, history, and ethics of organ transplantation, asking an ancient question in a whole new way: Who is your neighbor & what do you owe them? Sandbox Films says "we love films that ask big, messy questions at the intersection of science & society, and this film is one for the ages." Lane adds that: "I hope people will watch the film and feel motivated or inspired to consider organ donation. But the film isn't designed to convince anybody (to donate)." I'm a big fan of Lane's docs & will always watch them - no matter what they're about.
