A tribute from his painter Miriam brilliantly depicts him as a composer who orchestrated master craftsmen to keep his grandmother’s legendary home alive for eternity. In Mexico, for a lad just out of college, this can be a taxing, almost insurmountable task, yet you will see he has achieved his desire like a Prince with a dexterous finesse and grace. Candelaria always introduces herself to local taxis as "Maria Felix sin trensas"...without braids! The cherry wood table and chairs are perfect for entertaining or a writer’s contemplation. The entire abode has twinkling wall lights with dimmers which reflect enticing hues off the large, handmade, white-tiled mosaic floor. These works of art you will find only at Rivera del Rio. Gorgeous paintings tower on the walls…the most cherished, one of the lady of the house, was painted by the late world-renowned Sheila Devine. A blazing fireplace with mirrored walls, make this a joyous surrounding. Twinkling lights accentuate the hues of the wedge-wood walls and the large tiled floor below in a royal design that can also be seen in Empress Carlotta’s castle in Chapultepec. A verdant marble-columned driveway beckons one to the first of seven cozy apartments, each named after the heroes of the Revolution and the family of the designers, “Silver” Maria Cortez and her bon vivant grandson Alexander. The Cortez is the most accessible at ground level facing the river. An historic wealth of scenes from Cortez's landing in 1825 are elegantly hand painted throughout this apartment. Its high ceilings and large state-of-the-art living and dining area make it heavenly for intimate gatherings. Black trompe-l’oiled bathrooms with sunken tubs, toilet, and bidets, are handily situated on both levels. A stunning bedroom featuring a plump German Kluft bed envelopes the weary traveler in heavenly slumber, and the living area with two plush couches make entertaining for the holidays a must! Pastel cherubs painted by the renowned artist Manuel Lepe, deemed by most to to be one of Mexico's top artists sprinkle the vista above artfully connecting to a luminescent, frontal, stained glass window. Two expansive Botero paintings loom beguilingly over a 15th Century iron bed... the very one used in the film Harvest's love scenes with actor Mario Van Peebles and Christopher Lambert. Steve Mcqueen's son, Chad, could also be seen on his shoot hovering by one foot out of a helicopter over Playa Conchas Chinas, as "Silver" was being featured by her neighbor Alan Carr as a ravishing lady of the night... Another of her favorite treasures, a blue piano, can be seen in the move "Revenge", with Kevin Costner and Anthony Quinn. An ample library of leather bound French Classics, from Cervantes to Marat Sade, govern heavy leaded glass shelves and surely make this room great for writers, computers, or contemplation. Gorgeous pinewood French shutters make privacy a priority, and both the Green Room and Scarlet have access to the full Kitchenette and dining room below. About the Suite: A winding stairway elevates you to our central suite in the heart of the sumptuous Rivera del Rio Villa. From the marbled patio with filigreed silver inlays wrapped artfully around an ivied balcony unfolds a panoramic view of the emerald jungle and rushing river below. The suite adjoins a public state-of-the-art kitchen fully equipped with modern refrigerator, fresh purified water system, sparkling ice makers and scintillating hot ovens. Small intimate gatherings and parties are a must in this space! Here is where you will enjoy breakfast and meet the other houseguests with hot fresh meals cooked to order by our staff. An azure living room, with large coffee table and pinewood glass dining table, is enhanced by four beautiful Louis XIV chairs. A 15-foot mosaic pool heralded by porcelain flamed/hand held light fixtures is excellent for entertaining and fitness. A small lanai & bathroom with crystal chandeliers enables one to change togs without returning to your suite. Known as Mariposa, or the Monks Room, this is the spare room and can be used as a delicate cloister for the bachelor or bachelorette. The gorgeous Brahma bull oil is by painter Bill McGrail, painted lovingly for Candelaria on her birthday. McGrail, a Buddhist, jumped from his old red truck and painted the Brahman in Tuito in the moonlight! "He is like the sun and not the moon for his love shines bright and never changes." -Shakespeare Though small, there is a quaint blue refrigerator on the small balcony that hovers over the verdant Afghani, tiled garden below. This room has the most spectacular tiled floor of Mosaics, and is perfect for the traveler on a budget! Alexander has totally refurbished this room with mirrored walls over a working gas fireplace with an oblong crystalline chandelier making the entire abode an infinitesimal kismet of color! The bathroom's mosaic sink, the blue sunken tub, and shower are sheer glamour for the late night lovers. The transcendental wedge wood painted celestial color and mirrored shelves give an angelic repose... yet, the room has a definite masculine ambiance to it, most conducive to a writer or artist who treasures his space and solitude.
